In 2022, Edradour distillery produced 191,000 liters of pure alcohol, with 4,500 dedicated to its peated single malt, Ballechin. Boasting a robust 50 ppm phenol content, rivaling renowned Islay counterparts, Ballechin embodies its distinctive style with pervasive peat. The nose is rich, unveiling an earthy, saline peat complemented by floral notes like lavender and lilac. The palate is lively, featuring intense vanilla-infused peat, mineral undertones, and a mid-palate burst of white fruits. The finish, marked by bourbon vanilla, turns ashy and rooty with a hint of spice, while the lasting impression conjures creamy barley grains and a subtle animalistic bacon note in the retro olfaction.
