Founded in 1884, Beenleigh is Australia's oldest active rum distillery, rooted in Queensland's sugarcane-rich region. A historic supplier to the British Royal Navy, it remains one of the world's few traditional distilleries. Employing an "inverted" technique with column and pot still distillation, including the unique "Old Copper" pot still, Beenleigh creates "Single Blended Rum" using molasses and local water. The 2013 vintage, aged for a decade in ex-bourbon casks, showcases a potent 59% strength. Collaborating with La Maison & Velier in 2021, Beenleigh's unique character unfolds with a nose of Russian leather, prune kernel, grapefruit, rosewater, and sumac. The palate is powerful and spicy, offering vanilla, dried apricot, kaffir lime, orange zest, cardamom, and lavender. The long, assertive finish features guava, camphor, pine resin, black cherry, dark chocolate, and almond notes.
