Established in 2015, the Isle of Harris distillery is renowned for its gin, boasting eight Oregon pine washbacks, a 7,000-liter wash still, and a 5,000-liter spirit still. The Hearach, their inaugural single malt released in the current year, reflects the island's essence with a subtle peat influence (12 to 14 ppm). Exhibiting a green gold hue, the nose is fine and fresh, featuring menthol, aniseed, and light peat, complemented by herbal freshness and hints of green apple. The palate is rich and substantial, evoking a barley field, followed by peat, salt, and a progression of spices leading to barley and parsley. The long, serene finish unfolds with licorice-tinged peat and herbaceous notes, particularly expressive of green tea. The Hearach is a nuanced and intense whisky, capturing the natural beauty of the Isle of Harris.
